The officials' contract expires after the Super Bowl.
Have negotiations started?
Do we expect any contentious issues?

The officials' contract expires after the Super Bowl. Have negotiations started? Yes. Pretty much all collective bargaining has contentious issues. These talks are no exception. However, unlike the mainstream discussions between the league and NFLPA, I wouldn't expect this contract to threaten a normal start to the next season.

I'd love it if we got some news in the next eight days!

I just remember the mess from 2001. I hope we don't see a repeat of that.

I just remember the mess from 2001. I hope we don't see a repeat of that. No kidding. I don't think we'll get there. The NFLRA really made great strides in their 2001 contract. The union learned that the NFL wasn't above hiring replacements and going on without missing a beat. The NFL also learned how tough it is to officiate a game (and its gotten even tougher in the last 10 years). I expect we'll have a resolution before the NFL draft this spring - hopefully sooner!

I have heard about fourth hand that the CBA is not done.
I would imagine that the proposal to have part of the staff full time is either a sticking point, or something that needs to be negotiated slowly to make sure it all passes muster......

I'm getting concerned the longer this takes.
