This is a fantastic article about Joe DeRosa, former NBA official, and has now returned to the college ranks. The article is very well written, telling how DeRosa agonized over balancing the love of officiating between missing a family that needed him. bit.ly/hlnxFP

I've been to his store many times, and it's in Akron, not Canton. I had the pleasure of working a JV football game with Joe's dad at the end of his career in officiating.

Well done by Referee Magazine as usual. Hopefully he can have a successful career in the college ranks.

25 hotel nights in one month??? and probably 90% of them one night stands - at least in MLB, you are in one town for two/three nights...

25 hotel nights in one month??? and probably 90% of them one night stands - at least in MLB, you are in one town for two/three nights... Which is why I think officiating in the NBA or NHL would be so tough. If you're an MLB umpire, you'll be in Detroit from Sunday night until Thursday, Philly from Thursday night until Sunday, and Pittsburgh from Sunday night until Thursday. In the NBA, you'll work a game in San Antonio on Monday, fly to Oklahoma City on Tuesday for a Wednesday game, go to Memphis for a game on Friday. and go to Atlanta for a Saturday night game. All of that travel wears on a person.
