Steratore has been drawing a LOT of big games lately.

With Welmer retired and Ted Hillary working a reduced schedule, I think some opportunities opened up for Steratore!

That's right Fred! I hated to see Welmer retire, great official! I had the chance to see him and Hillary work the Big 10 Championship game at Ohio State Greg Oden's freshman year. Awesome officials!

For years if there was a big Big 10 basketball game, you could expect the crew of Welmer, Hillary, and Hightower. And you got a great game.
It is a crime that Welmer was never assigned a Final Four.

the welmer, hillary, hightower crew sounds a bit like the ACC's current setup of Kersey, Ayers and Hess. John Cahill could replace any of them too.

I had breakfast with Ed Hightower once. Amazing gentleman!

It was obvious on the OSU charge call,Steratore wasn't intimidated by Thad Motta, he wanted to cry, but Steratore, as the announcers said, wouldn't be intimidated at this level seeing how he sees the big boys in the NFL all the time. He was very cool and composed out there the whole game.

I agree about Steve Welmer. He absolutely deserved to work the Final Four. Surprisingly, I don't remember him even getting a regional final.

I agree about Steve Welmer. He absolutely deserved to work the Final Four. Surprisingly, I don't remember him even getting a regional final. I remember seeing footage of an Elite 8 game in the mid-90s that he worked. I don't think the tournament assignors liked him or the way he called games. John Adams, who took over the tournament assigning a few years ago, assigned Welmer just a first round game. I think last season, Welmer was assigned a first round game and he turned it back in. It was crazy; conference assignors put him on all the marquee games but Sweet 16 is about all the farther he got in the tournament.

Well, I stand corrected about Welmer. He has had injuries the past three seasons that have severely curtailed his schedule. I had heard that he got injured again and had to retire. It seems like he is still working..... statsheet.com/mcb/referees/steve-welmer/schedule

But anyway, back to Steratore. He is a VERY good college basketball referee.

he really is. i like the fact that he isn't one of the tech happy officials either. he's done 36 games and only teed 1 person up. If you've heard of Doug Sirmons, through 57 games, he's issued a whomping 44 techs.
i enjoy watching big 12 games cuz I can usually find Steratore at least twice a week.

Agreed that Steratore is a very good college basketball official. Hopefully he has a chance to join the rare class of guys who have worked a Super Bowl and a Final Four.

Does anyone else think that Steratore looks like Adam Sandler?
