This is a thread where I want to list all the officials who have worn a number over the years. I will concentrate on post-merger numbers, and throw in a pre-merger number if I know it. If any of you have a number to add, please PM me or reply within the thread. This is a work in progress, so please be patient! I'm doing this for a quick reference of officials' numbers. Most if it is done though memory and cross-checking through the various crew archives. I've left out that 1979-81 numbering system because that is and was a monster all to itself! ;D

Great Job! Didn't Cal Lepore wear 5 after 72? Or was that only in USFL. Lepore were #5 in the 1979-81 numbering system. I don't believe he was ever onfield in the USFL - only the supervisor. He wore #32 in the AFL and then #72 after the merger. I thought #5 was appropriate for him: 3+2=5 then 7-2=5. Yes, I'm that much of a nerd.

i find it interesting that of all the numbers that have been recycled with new officials, sometimes the next season after a veteran retires (I believe Bill Lovett's 98 was reissued right away), nobody has taken Dale Hamer's 104

It's interesting how some numbers like 11 are used so often, yet 39, 32, and 31 have only been used twice. I think that is simply due to longevity of the officials at that position.
