Tomorrow, Northwestern and Illinois will play a game at Wrigley field. Because of safety issues, they will only play with one endzone. This could turn into a nightmare for both teams and officials, especially if there is a defensive touchdown. Read more here: es.pn/cC8gpG

This is a Northwestern home game. Northwestern fights hard for face time in Chicago media with five professional teams.
This game was creating a big buzz. Now Northwestern looks silly and it is turning into a PR nightmare. If this was a successful game I'm sure Northwestern would have had more games at Wrigley but now, it'll never happen again.
Yes, the officials and administrators will have to jump through extra hoops to make it happen.
My question, why did the NCAA and Big 10 wait 24 hours before game time to turn this into football's version of half-court basketball?

They must have screwed up laying out the field, when the Bears played there it was on a full field..The field is still 100 yards long in the NCAA just like the NFL. We're the guys laying out the field dicombobulated or something...This whole scene makes no sense.

We're the guys laying out the field dicombobulated or something...This whole scene makes no sense. The Bears played football there up until 1970. The field ran from the first base line to the left field wall. The 2010 layout goes from the third base line to the right field wall. The Cubs have added seats to the ground level of the field since 1970, making the "old" Bears layout not possible. They could have gone from home plate to center field, but they'd have had to saw off the coffin corners in the back of the endzone and the seats would have been weird angles and not conducive to watching a football game. What started out as a very interesting novelty has turned into a PR black eye for Northwestern who pushed one of their home games to Wrigley field for exposure. The layout has been on the board for at least 9 months. Where was the Big 10 Conference then? Why now? The officiating crew will do well coping with the new rules. They will have more concerns than field layout. The Illini are fighting for a bowl berth and Northwestern loves to beat the state school. These two teams don't like each other.......

This could turn into a nightmare for both teams and officials, especially if there is a defensive touchdown. The "extra" endzone will be used for defensive touchdowns and safeties. They must have screwed up laying out the field, when the Bears played there it was on a full field..The field is still 100 yards long in the NCAA just like the NFL. We're the guys laying out the field dicombobulated or something...This whole scene makes no sense. As Fred said, when the Chicago (Staleys) moved there in 1921, and until 1970, they used a north-south configuration. New seats since then now required an east-west setup, which is very rare for football fields. I think Ford Field, the Georgia Dome, the Orange Bowl, and the Cleveland Browns field are the exceptions. At any rate, I think every officiating crew in the country is thanking their lucky stars they weren't assigned to this game (every crew but one, that is...) but imagine having this on your referee resume. I don't think I'm going to be able to get the broadcast for this game, so the highlights will certainly be interesting. Seriously though, I think they'll be fine. I'm sure the crew will do a good job. But just the same, we should all send them our positive energy.

Wrigley Field isn't the only stadium hosting a college football game this weekend, as Yankee Stadium will host the Army-Notre Dame game. I haven't heard of any problems with the field layout in that game, but it probably won't be the most comfortable place to watch a football game as a fan.
I understand that playing games in these baseball stadiums help the schools make an extra dollar or two and gain a little publicity, but from a fan's standpoint, it doesn't make much sense.

A case of a novelty idea that seemed good in someone's head, but should have been aborted in the planning stages.
