Any word on retirements? Last year 2 officials announced their retirements prior to week 17. I'd like to keep this thread only as confirmations and not opinions about who needs to go.

Jim Nantz just said on the BALT-CIN broadcast that Scott Green and Larry Rose are retiring after this season.

Congratulations to both men on outstanding careers. Green is in the rare category of someone who worked three Super Bowls.

Is Green the referee that was rumored at the start of the season to retire or is there another retiring referee?

I do believe that the rumour involved Green.

Knowing that Green is done, do we have any idea who the new white hat will be?

Probably 1 of the 4 who trained in the preseason. Of course Terry Brown worked a couple preseason games in 2007 as a WH also.

Is Green the referee that was rumored at the start of the season to retire or is there another retiring referee? There was a sense that this was this last year, but he didn't make that widely known. The one who was rumored to retire, come to find he is likely not retiring. Maybe a miscommunication in the rumor mill. And all I'll say is that it is good that this particular referee is staying.

I know Stabile and Steenson are getting up there in age.

Maybe now we'll get Scott's version of what happened that fateful day in San Francisco 11 years ago when he was the back judge in the infamous Giants/49ers game and has been blamed for failing to call the dpi on the 49ers because he thought the Giants receiver was ineligible. Maybe he did although I've never been sure. Even after all this time has passed, I would love to hear his side of the story or as that famous commentator used to say, now we'll know the rest of the story.

Are the new hires for 2014 going to come from the pool of college officials that worked in the preseason or will the league go outside that pool? I am assuming Sarah Thomas will be one of the hires.

Steenson will be retiring. That could open up a spot for someone like Scott Novak if the league is going to prioritize officials who have major college white hat experience
