Does anyone know when the 2014 MLB UMPIRE crew assignments will be made available and if there are any retirements from the 2013 list. I know that Bill Miller and Jeff Nelson are new crew chiefs but I think the number of crews were expanded due to the replay formula.

According to one of our administators (Mark) there will be 19 crews this year as two will be in New York each week acting as Replay Officials. There are no known retirements at this point in time.

2014 MLB Crews *Umpires in red are on the disabled list. Crews have been reshuffled to accomodate.

Wow, what a mess. What's with so many disabled umpires? I hope all can return.
In the meantime, lots of chances for AAA umpires to prove themselves.
Chad Fairchild take #4 from the previously retired Tim Tschida.
Don't look now but in one year, Joe West will tie Bruce Froemming as the longest tenured umpire, and if his health holds up (he's 60, no more than 61 now) he'll surpass Froemming's longevity record and might make it 40 years.

Why is Gibson in two different crews and what does the N mean by his name...
Also, Wolcott is a name I have never heard of interesting..no experience...
It is a mess...JC

It is a mess...JC Gibson is on 2 crews because I believe Fairchild is on the Bereavment List so may miss some time and while Barrett has an experienced #3 (Paul Schreiber), Bill Miller does not (as is Miller's crew is quite inexperienced for a new crew chief). If Fairchild was going to be out for a short time I am surprised they didn't just swap him with Mark Carlson when they put together the crews as it would have meant that Gibson could have stayed on Crew C until Gary Darling returned from the DL. The letters next to the name indicate what crew they should have been on before being reshuffled due to the large number on the DL. Quinn Wolcott had his first taste of the majors last year and I thought did well. I am a bit surprised though that Will Little (another rookie last year) got assigned to a specific crew versus some more experienced replacements like Clint f*gan, who I thought looked better last season

I noticed the chart above is out of date. I think these sources keep umpire roster data up to date. 2014 Umpires
