Interesting that Brad Allen was hired as an umpire. With the U now in the offensive backfield, you may see more future R candidates hired as umpires because that will give them a good chance to observe the Referee in action.

If the list provided by the NFL is accurate, then there will be no swing officials for 2014.
A few other number notes: not counting replacement officials, 117 first time worn since Ben Montgomery, 123 first time since Tom White, 17 first time since Bob Lawing, 92 for the first time since Carl Madsen, and 122 for the first time since Bill Schmitz.

I have an article forthcoming about that very thing. Hope to have it posted sometime tomorrow.

There are a few position changes to report, but there are some errors in the NFL list. There are 19 FJs and 16 each of LJs and SJs. Either the positions are not final (not likely) or there is a correction forthcoming. I'm checking into it. Once we get those ironed out, then I'll post the position changes.

Also if Baltz retired and Howey changed positions how are we at 17 HL since there was seemingly 1 HL hired?

I have someone at the league who will get back to me, but it is possible that Mike Weir was an unintended omission from the NFL press release.

Someone on ebay is selling a "game worn NFL referee jersey" for $999.99. Its the old one w/2" stripes. However, I am calling BS on this one. Anyone ever remember a referee #186? Anyone ever remember any official with a number that high?

My guess is that it was worn by a replacement official during the 2001 NFL-NFLRA labor dispute.

Could it be an NFL Europe jersey? Those guys had some high numbers.

Could it be an NFL Europe jersey? Those guys had some high numbers. I don't think so as the patch on the front is the old NFL shield patch. Not the NFLE logo. Besides, even if it was authentic, $1000.00? And then another $30 for shipping? Are you kidding me? Also, its location is in Vancouver, BC, which is a tad suspicious. And the seller rating is less-than-stellar. I am adding to my ebay watch list just to see if anyone is foolish enough to spend that much money on it.

It might be a jersey produced and worn by an actor for commercial use, like the referee who forgot his coin for the coin toss on the "Wanna get away?" ad campaign or a myriad of other NFL-themed commercial campaigns.
I'd stay away from this one.
