Surprising there hasn't been anything about the officiating in the FIFA World Cup here. Good news. One of the knockout games tomorrow will be ref'd by an American referee; I think this is the first time ever.
Well he certainly can't do a worse job than the guy from Portugal this afternoon who robbed Mexico. That was no penalty at the end of the game. Period. At best it was marginal and I'm sorry although many of the people here don't like to hear this, you've got to take into consideration the time of the game. Your first obligation as an official is to allow the players, if at all possible, to decide the game. Not you. The overriding question is if the referee does not make tht call, is there any kind of outcry that he blew it. The answer is a resounding No. You simply don't make that kind of call in stoppage time in a tied game. Period.

The MLS has to be proud of Mark Geiger. He's been arguably the best referee in Brazil. It may not be far-fetched to see him work the final.

Kudos to the Algerian referee and his assistants who worked a very good game in the USA's losing effort against Belgium.
