Congratulations, a great honor for Jerry Seeman and his family for his contributions to the game. Hopefully, this recognition will be a steeping stone for inducting game officials into the Hall of Fame.
If so, will Jerry Seeman be the first to pioneer this long overdue honor.

I thought that maybe Jeff would have switched to #70 with Dawson retired.

Hopefully the league will think about retiring 56 (Schacter), 32 (Tunney), 25 (Kelleher), and 110 (Botchan).

I support Seeman's number retirement; however I think a more fitting tribute to him and to his esteemed colleagues mentioned in this thread are induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

If the NFL goes to an 8th official, I'm sure they'll have to issue jersey numbers 136-145. I am NOT a fan of three digit jersey numbers, but with a staff of 119 officials, we can't avoid reality.
If we start retiring too many numbers, we'll be well into triple digits.
I think the only other number to retire should/could be #35 worn by Art McNally during his onfield days; but he was a supervisor longer than he was an official, so I don't think that number retirement would be as meaningful.
Again, HOF enshrinement would be the best recognition.
