Brad Allen really looks like he belongs. Poised, calm, no nerves. The only different is the size of the stripes and the shield on the hat. EDIT: And on top of it all, his first game is OT. He nailed the OT rules and handled the coin toss like an old pro. I agree 100%. Allen looked like a 10 year vet out there today. I'm sure bumps will come up for him but he had a very impressive debut.

I thought Allen had a good game, but his crew? Meh... I didn't like the picked up flag for offensive holding in the 4th quarter against the Bears and I felt like there were a number of "make up" calls in favor of Buffalo going down the stretch - looked like there should have been a few illegal contact flags thrown.

I'm not sure if we mentioned it here, but Kirk Dornan is retired. Brad Allen will have a new back judge every week. That BJ this week was rookie Rich Martinez who made his regular season debut a week early. Also Ed Camp is still out with Jerry Bergman replacing him in Atlanta earlier today.

Good news, Buddy Horton is back on the field after missing all of the pre-season.

zebrablog. they couldn't take a BJ like Tony Steratore from another crew and let a veteran ref have a different BJ each week? No. Dornan was listed for preseason games, as far as I know. Late-late-late change.

At Jaguars-Eagles, a good first half by Triplette and company. Kudos to Triplette, Freeman, and Boris Cheek (SJ once again). Hannah seems to have slowed down a little. The new FJ kept his head in the game.

Very weak OPI flag from James Coleman against #84 on San Fransisco

The offensive holding flag was picked up because there was no foul. Also, if you really believe that any NFL official is going to issue a "makeup" call, then you don't understand the vocation. Believe me, these guys are already thinking Super Bowl and cannot wait to receive week #1 evaluations to start tallying downgrades, praise, etc. We all view officiating as something fun, enjoyable and a way to give back to the sport(s) we love. The NFL guys view it as another religion.

I took advantage of the annual free Week 1 Sunday Ticket to take quick takes on all three of the rookie refs. I thought all three showed excellent composure and made polished calls. Obviously the key will be in their week-to-week grades but they all looked comfortable in their new roles.

Did Corrente already dump the earpiece?

Shawn Hochuli with a bad spot on an Andrew Luck run near the goal line. He ruled Luck out of bound at the 2 but he was clearly in the endzone. Corrente overturned it after replay. Looked like Hochuli was about t get run over and might have lost concentration.
