It isn't just football. I have had parents in youth soccer leagues run by the local recreation department try and work me. If anything some of that is probably worse than coaches because you have idiot parents who think any call/non-call would stunt their child's growth as the next soccer phenom. Early on I earned the respect of the gentleman who ran the officiating as some of the higher ups in the recreation department because I would call a game how it was supposed to be called. The problem they had was since the officials were Junior High/High School kids (it was great money for a weekend job - $15 or more per game with 2 or 3 in a day and 20-30 minute halves) they would often favor teams younger siblings were on, but I tried to call games fairly. It also helped that early on I was not afraid to boot a parent from the sideline which was backed by the officiating coordinator. It was a big deal because you rarely would see ejections for anything other than dangerous plays and even then as a youth rec league you were supposed to yellow card and instruct so most never did it again in the same game and cards didn't carry over. Rained the night before wiping away much of the sideline and they were on me for boundary calls and not always with the best of language. Warned them in the first half, spoke to coach at halftime as taught, but in the second half they continued. One parent got the hint when I gave a yellow card, the other didn't
