Hello All!
I am an avid football fan who is looking to get my foot in the door in the world of refereeing. My main goal is not be an actual ref, but to rather somehow find a path to try and become a member of the sideline Chain Gang.
Has anyone on here tried to do that? If so, how does one go about doing so?
Anything Helps.
Thank you

Thank you First of all, you need to volunteer to work the chains for your local high school, middle school or youth league. If you don't get a job at the beginning, ask if you can shadow the chain crew on Friday nights and be a sponge. Watch how they interact with the head linesman. After the game, ask questions. Most Division I and NFL chain crews are staffed by local officials' associations and have licensed football officials working them. It'll be harder to break in on one of those crews. While you are working the chains, watch the officials more than the players. Who knows, you might get bitten by the officiating bug. I'd encourage you to consider officiating!
