I'm going to go with tj on the referees but I'll say Cormier instead of Cherrey.

Considering some combination of those officials worked all of the Game 7's so far in this year's playoffs I am going with this prediction. That being said, I wonder if there is something with the training that the first 3 are consistently in the top 4 Referee's. Unless once you get in it is impossible to get out, the odds of that happening on a yearly basis have to be absurdly low. I also hate that the NHL doesn't allow retiring officials to work the playoffs. I get that they want the official to have his choice of final assignments, but if the official is playoff caliber you are providing a disadvantage to playoff teams.

I get that they want the official to have his choice of final assignments, but if the official is playoff caliber you are providing a disadvantage to playoff teams. I agree that the best officials should officiate playoff even in their retirement season....but I understand why not. I think the NHL wants each official to have a rock-solid end day. If they are assigned games 1, 4, and 7 of a series they may not know when their REAL final game is. My guess is they also want each retiring official treated equally. Ray Scapinello and John D'Amico were given the Finals as a send-off, even game 7 for D'Amico. But what about Jerry Pateman, Mark Pare and other linesmen who had borderline playoff careers? The NHL started a program under Terry Gregson where they would approach an official three years out and begin discussions with them about their final season. The retirement date for many of these officials is three years out (barring injury disability, etc.). I like how they handle it, but I understand not working the playoffs is controversial.
