What a shock. Angel Hernande didn't make it. His plate job was one of the better ones in the Divisional Series, but I am sure most Umpire followers would agree that all 7 of the on field Umpires had stronger seasons. That is nothing to scoff at as you have some great names on the Crew this year. Considering Danley’s long playoff hiatus I may have given him an LCS rather than a WS slot, but that is a minor quibble. MLB likes to interject new blood into LCS each year and with the slots for regular season CC’s there are not many slots for a U2 has a strong year. Also, the league does assign an Umpire to a Division Series who graded out higher than LCS Umpires because if one of the expected names really struggles (bad plate job, rule misinterpreted that can’t be corrected with replay) they have a replacement who also worked DS.

Keep in mind that Larry Vanover and Jerry Meals were both vets who had a Game 1 plate

In all seriousness about Angel, can you imagine the uproar if he had gotten a WS assignment Considering every umpire would cause an uproar because some talking head somewhere would complain that an umpire on the crew is biased against his/her favorite team. Angel Hernandez has made tremendous strides in recent years. I think working with Ted Barrett really helped with his situation handling and he worked on more consistency with his strike zone. To use the NFL as an exmple, I thought Terry McAulay was a solid official who probably got assigned too much too soon. The same can be said for Angel Hernandez.
