A good Referee from the Big Ten will be shut out of a bowl game. Capron has worked either a BCS/NY6/Big Ten championship in 5 of the last 6 seasons and McGinn has worked Bowl games in 4 straight seasons. Not saying McGinn isn’t good, but Capron is elite in my opinion. No way Capron should be shut out. You’re probably losing more sleep than Capron and Owens are. Capron worked the freaking NCG last year; I’m sure he quickly got over not being picked for a mediocre bowl game this year. The margins that separate officials in Power 5 conferences are very thin. And many factors go into bowl selection other than just who we see working the most “big” games; every game in a P5 conference is a big game. And there’s a chance that those two are/were alternates at other bowl games. So while it might be “stunning” to you it really is not that big of a deal.

Long time lurker here, but Capron had a very rough game in the Purdue Missouri game. A significant downgrade may have affected that assignment.
Or the Big Ten is holding him back as an alternate.

Longtime lurker here too, from what I can see then, in addition to Dan Capron, both U Ed Feaster and CJ Mike Stumberg would be left out of the bowls this year. That is unless they get assigned back to back CFP National Championships. From what I have heard at camps and from fellow officials. Feaster is one of the best. I am surprised to see him not get an assignment this postseason. I agree though, the difference among the top officials from an evaluation standpoint is pretty slim.

Tra Boger formerly played, albeit briefly, in NFL and CFL. He is also Jerome Boger’s son.
