Heaser probably does not get the Fiesta because he worked the ACC championship, Magallanes worked Army-Navy, and we have postseason assignments for Heydt and Johnson. I also would be shocked if Defee does not get the Peach Bowl. Reggie Smith and Brandon Cruse have postseason assignments, and Defee by far is the best ref in the Big 12 IMO.

Just confirmed with an ACC replay official Citrus-Johnson Orange-Heydt Dollar General-Flanagan Fiesta-Mullins Texas-Patterson Wow. Very surprised that Stuart Mullins is getting a NY6 bowl. Congrats to him. Just thought that Flanagan would get the nod. I speculate that Mike Defee is getting the Peach Bowl. Can anybody confirm?

Independence bowl, midway through 1st qtr, umpire gets hit from behind and goes off the field for med eval. There are now 2 Hs on the field, one in the U spot, I'm assuming an alternate? I didn't know they had alternates in NCAA.
Edit: After a Duke interception and fumble all on one play, U is back on the field, about 2 minutes left in 1st qtr.

Alamo Bowl: Iowa State player ejected for targeting via replay. No flag during the play but replay steps in and ejects.
Iowa State coach flips out and draws an unsportsmanlike conduct flag. He was determined to get the flag. Patrick Holt (L) or the F threw the flag.
Only quibble is the flag came too late in the eruption. Stomped onto the field early and the laundry should have flown in the first five seconds.

The second targeting call seemed to be one of those "close calls" in real time but looked obvious on replay. At first, I gave the refs a thumbs up for not over-reacting to a coach who had just had a tough call go against him. But after a short time I got to where FredFan7 was--the behavior needed to be penalized sooner.
What looked worse, though, was the missed false start on the ensuing Wash. St. touchdown.
The refs also had to make a taunting call earlier in the game when a player extended the ball and looked back at an opponent. I hate that rule, but they called it properly. I think.

Clemson awarded possession of the football after fumbling on a kickoff return. The initial ruling on the field was that Notre Dame had recovered the fumble. Video review, however, showed that the ball touched out of bounds and possession was given back to Clemson. ND coach Brian Kelly disagreed. I could see him mouthing on TV the word "conclusive." I suppose he felt that video was inconclusive to overturn the ruling on the field. I think Matt Austin and crew got it correct though.

With that said, didn’t like how there was no PI on ND and PI on Clemson. Both looked identical. “Looked” the operative word. A lot of things “look” the same to fans. It doesn’t mean they are the same. No two plays are identical.
