This will be Mike Cannon's second trip to the National Championship. He was a deep wing for the 2006 Rose Bowl game which occurred 13 years ago today.

This will be Mike Cannon's second trip to the National Championship. He was a deep wing for the 2006 Rose Bowl game which occurred 13 years ago today. Third. He was also the FJ in the 2010 National Championship (took place in 2011). Also Officiating that game were current NFL Officials Bryan Neale and Alex Kemp (as SJ).

Four of the officials who worked the B1G Championship Game haven't worked a bowl game yet. Snodgrass isn't working tonight but he could be the alternate. The other 3 are HL Ric Hinkamper FJ Tim Maguire and BJ Mike Elliott. I suspect some or all 3 may be doing tonight's game. I don't know the entire depth chart of the Big 10 to guess who might be working but U Ken Zelmanski and SJ Frank Steratore are 2 other possibilities I'm aware of.

My guesses on the crew: R- Mike Cannon (confirmed) U- Ken Zelmanski CJ- Brent Durbin HL- Tripp Sutter LJ- Ron Tipton SJ- Frank Steratore BJ- Mike Elliott FJ- Tim Maguire
I doubt we will see any Official work back to back championship games but Feaster, Mike Stumberg and John Hayes are all possbilities to do that. I picked Tipton at LJ but could easily see John Quinn working this game as well. Him and Tipton have both worked a number of BCS/NY6 games in their careers.

I agree with these selections. I am just surprised that Feaster, Stumberg and Hayes all worked the top game last year and didn't even get an assignment this year. Either they all had off years or the overall evaluations were so good among the officials in the BIG that Corrollo gave them a year away.

Either they all had off years or the overall evaluations were so good among the officials in the BIG that Corrollo gave them a year away. They still could potentially be working the game but I just can't imagine anyone will work back to back Championships. I guess we will find out in a few hours!!!!

So Feaster and Hayes get back to back Championships. I would not be surprised if this was Feaster or Steratore's last NCAA game...
It is also interesting that this game has 2 SJ's and the Alamo Bowl had 2 FJ's. I am guessing that both FJ's from the Alamo Bowl had good seasons but not quite National Championship good while both SJ's had great seasons as they both always do.
Hayes is on quite a role, 4 NY6 games in his last 4 seasons and 2 National Championships. He would definitely be on the NFL radar if he was a little bit younger.
Very veteran crew, 3rd National Championship for Cannon (2005 and 2010 as FJ, 2018 as a Referee) and Durbin (2005 and 2013 as HL, 2018 as a CJ), second for Feaster (2017 and 2018), Tipton (2013 and 2018) and Hayes (2017 and 2018). First Championship for Sutter, Elliott and Steratore. Very good crew on hand tonight!

Frank Steratore is the cousin of Tony and Gene Steratore. He worked the Peach Bowl semifinal game from the 2016 season, and is in his 3rd year in the NFL Officiating Development Program.
Ed Feaster is in his second year in the ODP; Tripp Sutter is in his first.
Mike Elliott officiated the 2018 Big Ten championship game between Ohio State and Northwestern.
Feaster and Brent Durbin also worked the same Peach Bowl with Steratore.
NFL line judge Brian Bollinger was also on that game, and was hired into the NFL the next season. He has finished his second season with Brad Allen's crew.

Nice coin toss.
Good start to the game.
Many of the wing officials area wearing hat cam. The camera is on the brim of the cap and the battery pack and transmitter are in a pouch on the back of the cap.
While it looks strange, I spoke to an official who has worn one, and he says the hat is comfortable.

Interestingly enough, both Hayes and Steratore were SJs duding the regular season (McGinn and Snodgrass crews, respectively). Then again, deep wings are pretty interchangeable, so I guess it's really not that interesting.
