It seems to me more umpires are being injured behind the plate. Is it because of the juiced up ball?
I don't think so. I think they are a lot more careful when it comes to concussions nowadays. If there is even a hint of a concussion, plyers and umpires alike are going to be taken off the field. When the American League umpires used the balloon chest protector, there didn't seem to be as many umpires getting hit in the arm and shoulder. As far as the juiced ball, I think that's more of an issue with all the home runs.
