Second National Championship game for Villar (2012), Wharrie (2015), Johnson (2015) and Kieser (2012).
The umpire steps to the line of scrimmage when he reads pass for two reasons: 1) to get out of the way of short crossing patterrns and 2) to judge linemen downfield.
When the umpire gets to the line of scrimmage, if an ineligible receiver passes him, his antenna goes up for a potential foul.

Good call by the crew for an illegal blindside block. Of all the fouls we've seen in this category this season, this was not the worst. However, the block satisfied the exact language of the rule, being (1) outside the opponent's field of vision, and was (2) attacking with (3) forcible contact.
Chemistry and patience look like confidence On a run down the sideline for a touchdowb, field judge Kevin Kieser patiently waits and looks back toward line judge Dale Keller before showing the touchdown signal. Kieser has a good look of the pylon, but deep wings on the goal line should wait and allow the line of scrimmage officials a chance to rule the runner out of bounds before giving a potentially conflicting signal. Good chemistry, patience and decisiveness.
