Mike Dolce is the H today on McGinn's crew. Glad to see that Mike is back in the Big Ten. Very strange as to why he was let go from the NFL considering he worked a Playoff Game last year and was an alternate the year before so he was not let go for performance reasons. Good pickup for the Big Ten, he worked many NY6 games during his first time in the Big Ten including 2 National Championships.

Mike Dolce is the H today on McGinn's crew. Interesting--I knew he was not on the NFL roster this year, but did not know any of the details... ETA: based on the post above, it looks like he was let go by the NFL? As someone who follows the Big Ten, I am glad the conference was able to get it back.

I had not heard anything regarding whether his leaving the NFL was voluntary or not. Was just curious how it went down. I could see how one would prefer the college game (from a fan standpoint, anyway).

But considering he received a playoff assignment that would seem like it was not performance related. Could it be related to something else such as why Brian Runge is no longer an MLB umpire or his off-field job may have made scheduling more difficult (i.e. his job made it impossible for him to work Thursday night games)?

I don’t think it would be due to any off field dirty laundry or Carollo wouldn’t have brought him back to the B1G.

This reasoning from the announcers didn't make much sense to me. He was down (by virtue of starting his slide). It was not about rewarding or punishing anyone. The hit was after the play ended....a dead ball fowl. You can argue that the rule is wrong, but don't throw it on the officials.

West Virginia @ Penn State- Mark Kluczynski I was surprised when I saw Kluczynski and a Big 10 crew given that WVU was the road team.

The agreements teams make for out of conference play will stipulate regarding officiating. Also, since the ACC does not have a second FBS conference affiliation for officiating like B1G with MAC they run into an issue in early season of not having enough crews. B1G can have a normally MAC crew operate a B1G/FCS match and then have someone who would ordinarily not be a R officiate a MAC/FCS game. ACC should really look at bringing AAC or some other conference under one umbrella.

You guys have done amazing work tracking down all the white hats this weekend. I believe the only three FBS games that we don’t have (out of 87!) are Long Island at Ohio, South Carolina State at Charlotte, and Stephen F. Austin at Troy. Random question. Does anyone know who the umpire was on Luke Richmond’s AAC crew yesterday? He looked like retired Big 12 referee Dan Romeo. Here you go: storage.googleapis.com/goutsa-prod/2023/09/03/3oXcUCHL6zPt9r6nwv3GGfNJz5VHFKzQ9io4yr6E.pdfThank you very much, Mike!
