Minnesota @ Northwestern- Tim O'Dey Akron @ Indiana- Kole Knueppel UCF @ Kansas State- Michael Vandervelde Not that anyone was wondering but Kon Knueppel the top 25 basketball recruit that signed with Duke last week is Kole's nephew. Apparently the Knueppel family is a bunch of gym rats.

Forgive me for sounding ignorant but I am genuinely curious. How do crews get assigned each week? Do they know where they are going for the whole season before week 1 or do they find out on a week by week basis? Also, do they get assigned through Arbiter or through another scheduling software?

First of all, welcome to the forum! We hope you have more to post. Each major conference has a supervisor of officials (sometimes the supervisor oversees two conferences). That supervisor is responsible to put together crews for each season. Those crews stay together the entire season (save for the random sub or swap due to job or alma mater issues). It depends on each conference. Some assign for the whole season. Others say "you'll be working" and then assign the season in thirds. For instance, they might be getting their October assignment locations now. Almost all assignments are made through some type of software - be it Arbiter or something else.

I would also say that the conferences who give assignments piecemeal still have an internal schedule for the full season or maybe all but the last week or two. A conference doesn’t want to be caught having a surprise game late in the year that proves to be stronger than expected yet the top few crews have worked either or both of the teams more than a conference would like.
