What crews did you see? What did you think of them. Please refer to the Observation Grades thread so you know about the letter grades we assign to the crews.
Have fun!

Bad call on Suh of Detroit on the horse collar. He pulled on the guy's hair and not the shoulder pads.

Richard Seymour was ejected by Tony Corrente for throwing an open-handed punch at Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben egged him on, but Seymour was out of line. From this video, it looks like the crew did an EXCELLENT job of handling the situation.
Corrente didn't sound to happy when he made the announcement. Good explanation, too.

The way Roethlisberger is and his history, I think he deserved it. I know Seymour had to get tossed and that was the right move to eject him, but Roethlisberger got a little bit of what has been coming to him recently.

In the Pittsburgh announcement, you could tell Corrente was hot. I'm thinking he must have warned them ahead of time to knock off the funny business, and he probably knows that Roethlisberger overreacted.
They had two bad calls in the Lions game. The Cowboys 90-some odd yard return, the returner's heel slid out of bounds. Second, was the (first) horsecollar tackle.
I agree with the announcers that the horsecollar thing needs to be "cleaned up." Sometimes, in fast games, or with a team that commits so many penalties, it's not clear how the tackle was made. I include that last comment because I think it's true that when a team is penalty-prone, an official, especially a newer one, may tend to assume the penalty is there when it isn't. Markbriet got nailed on this one himself when he was a line judge and again in his final season (and probably in between).
I will say good job to the crew on getting the coach calmed down without a flag. They would have been well within their right to throw one.
I have to say that it's looking worse and worse for the Cheffers crew. Although they weren't earth-shattering mistakes, every little bit hurts. That combined with what I feel is Cheffers still sounding unsure of himself sometimes on the mic may hurt him and the crew, despite the generally good game control.
OK, it looks like we have my favorite on tonight, so hopefully Al Michaels will be kind.

Steratore's crew gets an A this week. It was a tough assignment, but nothing to crazy happened.

I saw a good chunk of the Ravens-Panthers game today. I'll give Riveron's crew a C for that one. There were a few instances where they weren't communicating very well and the game got bogged down because of it.
Riveron impressed me last year, but he's been sub-par this year, IMO.

Steratore crew gets an A. Why was Tom Brady screaming at Steratore on the last kneel-down? Brady was whining earlier for DPI. He really can be a pain in the rear for officials.
Great call by Ron Marinucci a the end of the first half when progress was stopped in bounds he kept the clock running and properly forced Indy to take a time out.
HL Jerry Bergman, Jr., had a solid night.
Steratore pointed the wrong way on one penalty and very calmly corrected himself and even smiled at the end of the announcement, knowing that his crew would give him the business after the game!
The deep officials did well all night.
Great game by the Steratore crew.

I kinda liked Corrente's ejection announcement: "...number 93 ejected himself from the game with his actions." I bet he probably thought Not-so-Gentle Ben gave it a World Cup style flop, but the rule is the rule, and a ref in a situation like that needs to immediately take control.
Seems like a small thing, but I thought Steratore handled the injury timeout thing at the end of Colts-Patriots game well. The trainers came out right as Wayne popped up, gotta call it.

Steratore crew B+. A+ to Butch Hannah for his work as U. Mike Carey and crew B+, with an A to the two wing officials involved in the punt illegally touched, and an A to U49. Sorry to hear about another tough day for Riveron and Co., and it sounds like Tony Corrente is having an excellent season.

Terry MacAulay's crew deserves an A for their work in the Washington-Tennessee game. Three critical calls, all of which they nailed. I was particularly glad to see Randy Moss called for offensive pass interference. Also, MacAulay made a good roughing the passer call for helmet to helmet against Tennesee. And a Redskins OL had his helmet ripped off, which kept Washington's winning drive alive. The titans really lost their composure on that last drive.

That's a simple crutch coaches use to deflect the spotlight from their team and the stupid things they do on the field.
