In this 1966 NFL Films footage of a Browns-Falcons game you can see glimpses of Jim Tunney (32) as a back judge (called then field judge). This was his final year before he became a referee. The crew are: R 23 Bud Brubaker U 44 Dell Koop HL 17 Jerry Bergman LJ 28 Bill Schleibaum BJ 29 Stan Javie FJ 32 Jim Tunney www.youtube.com/user/diz2001#p/u/1/o4N48pc9fZU(Koop only worked from 1965-67. Bergman was a rookie that season).

Boy, Tunney and Bergman were two young bucks!
I always get Brubaker and Bill Downs mixed up. What number was Bill Downs?

Good find teo. I don't think I've seen footage of Tunney at a position than referee. He sure does look young in this piece....

Good find teo. I don't think I've seen footage of Tunney at a position than referee. He sure does look young in this piece.... THat's because he was 37 years old in that footage! Back then the NFL sometimes hired officials at a younger age. Tunney was 31 when he was hired by the NFL in 1960. When the NFL approached Markbreit in the late 60s to recruit him to the league, he was 32 or 33. That just doesn't happen anymore....for better or worse.

Bud Brubaker was Jim Tunney's uncle. Great footage!
