ha. yup i saw this. i think morelli was on the bubble anyhow, since 7 crews will be left off. wasn't it his crew the previous week that had the downs issue for TB-Washington (albeit, they were correct, it was just a miscommunication)
i think he has slipped in recent years.

This year has been an awful year for officiating. Morelli's 9 yard 1st down, Hochuli looking real old, Cheffers problems, Coleman and Triplette looking like deers in the headlights.
And that doesn't even mention the Calvin Johnson rule.

I think the NFL is missing Mike Pereira pretty badly.

I thought Coleman has looked fine. Maybe not CC/Super Bowl caliber but his crew looks deserving of a playoff. You want deers in the headlights, look at Alberto Riveron

Morelli also screwed up in week #7 during the Buffalo - Baltimore game. After coming back from a review he went on the mike and said " it will be 4th and 5 from the 30 and they put the ball on the 35. Before Harbaugh could get his attention they kicked the field goal and luckily made it. The booth upstairs knew about it but couldnt get ahold of Morelli in time also.Everybody in the stadium knew the spot was wrong except for Morelli. I wonder if the field goal was no good if Baltimore could have used a challenge ?

You want deers in the headlights, look at Alberto Riveron i concur with this. i saw coleman basically 6 week straight, and he wasnt parry or leavy caliber, but he looked deserving of a playoff. morelli, riveron, cheffers, triplette and blakeman (for obvious reasons) are the only one's i think are definitely out. and I like blakeman's crew with a different ref as getting a game.

I heard that Morelli's crew had issues with down and distance from the CBS crew while flipping back and forth between games. Now I know why...

My points are similar to what so many members have said about the different crews all year. Compared to some years where it seems like 8 crews are fighting for the Super Bowl, this year has been below average. I don't know if it is because of the change of power between MP and Carl Johnson or because the U is in a different position, but 9 yards for a first down is one of those mistakes that no official, whether junior high or NFL, should EVER make!

I am NOT the only one who has posted about the officiating being subpar but I know I won't be the last.

Compared to some years where it seems like 8 crews are fighting for the Super Bowl, this year has been below average. agreed. as is always, 7 crews will be left off, and in my opnion, they'll be: morelli riveron cheffers triplette blakeman (this crew with coleman or boger perhaps?) coleman green/boger/hochuli i think that corrente, mcaulay, parry, steratore, anderson, leavy, winter and carey are all going to get an assignment. probably see hochuli and boger/coleman with blakeman's crew as the others. i think steratore since he had the bears-lions wk 1 and the miami-steelers "controversies" that he wont get the SB, but a Divisional or CC. anyone agree leavy or parry for SB ?

This has been a rough year for NFL officials, but it hasn't been nearly as rough as the 2008 season was. It's pretty easy to tell which crews will be working in January, and which ones will be watching from home.
Locks Blakeman (different R) Carey Leavy McAulay Parry Winter
On the Bubble Anderson Boger Coleman Corrente Green Steratore
Out Cheffers Hochuli Morelli Riveron Triplette
