The fact that Bryant wasn't suspended for a game or two shows that the NBA has its own hidden agenda, and doesn't want to make the best players sit out for any postseason games.
While a $100,000 fine may seem hefty, it's pocket change for a man who makes $25 million a year. It's the equivalent of the average American paying a $150 traffic ticket.
I'm sorry, but Kobe should have to sit for at least 2 or 3 games for this.

Do we know if the referee heard what was uttered? Can you imagine if Kobe had said that to Earl Strom, Mendy Rudolph, Sid Borgia, or Norm Drucker?

Do we know if the referee heard what was uttered? Can you imagine if Kobe had said that to Earl Strom, Mendy Rudolph, Sid Borgia, or Norm Drucker? If an official heard him say it and didn't toss him, they have no (courage) whatsoever. An official had to have heard it, because if they didn't, there probably wouldn't have been any league action. I wonder if there would have been a fine if the camera wasn't zoomed in on Kobe when he said the magic word...

I know it's a different sport, but in HS if a player or coach would have said that to me, I'd rule flagrant USC and toss him on only one flag.
