Never heard of him. What happened to Cooper Castleberry? Reggie Smith spent the last couple seasons as a FJ in the Big 12. I am not exactly sure what happened, but Karl Richins no longer works for the Big 12 as a Referee. Smith essentially replaced him. The Big 12 and MWC have some sort of deal in place that they combine referees. ie, Greg Burks will work a Big 12 game one week and MWC the next week. Castleberry is still a Referee in the Big 12 but this season he has worked more MWC games. Hope that helps you! WOW.. just realized...... no Karl Richins.... OMG! where is he?

Richins seemed like an up and comer. Did the Pac-12 nab him?

Richins seemed like an up and comer. Did the Pac-12 nab him? No, I am not sure what happened to Richins. I am thinking he was let go due to performance. I remember him working a news yeares day bowl game a few years ago. But the last 2 seasons, his assignments started deteriorating heavily and from what I saw, he was just not very good. It's a shame, but it happens. Pac-12 Referees Larry Farina and Brian O'Cain were fired in the middle of the season last year due to multiple instances of administrative errors and just bad calls.

I saw him work a New Years bowl and was very impressed with him. If he was dropped from D-I rosters, I'm sorry for him.

Sorry he was forced from the field. It looks like he's putting his experiences to help move officiating forward.
