I never in my life have seen a one point safety. Announcers were correct - we'll probably never see this play again in our lives. Cherry and crew got it right and Cherry was AWESOME on the mic. Brad Nessler referenced a play that happened during a Texas-Texas A&M game about 10 years ago. I remember this play as well, and it happened in a very similar situation. This is a VERY rare play. Video of the play Nessler referenced:

Very difficult play to officiate, one I believe was ruled incorrectly. Was there a flag for the illegal forward pass in the EZ? Technically it was incomplete so it should have been blown dead without possession. Flag post-possesion on a try is automatically declined - no safety/no point.

The 1-point safety has to be the rarest scoring play in all of sports. The crew NAILED this call without replay. The pass in the EZ was a forward pass, which should have drawn a flag.

Runner's knee was down prior to attempted pass. The play was ruled correctly.
