For some years, Gerry was umpire on Schacter's crew. After some call or the other, as I remember, a player began screaming to all who would hear, "Don't ever have a friend who is an official, because he'll never do anything for you." Very capable umpire, now I know that he was not fired. As a side comment, I believe that he began his officiating career in the AFL as a line judge.

He worked a divisional playoff in 1972 between Cleveland and Miami, and the Pro Bowl after 1975.

Footage of Mr. Hart from his USFL days. He worked the umpire for the championship game. He was wearing #66.

In his final NFL season, Hart was suspended for two games for a mistake in a Bills-Colts game. link

Very interesting find, teo! We missed this in our research around the Ellison incident. Two games was pretty harsh. I repaired the link above, because some of the punctuation in the URL caused an adverse effect. After the fact, I found a longer version of the same AP story in a Toledo newspaper. That story confirms that the last officials suspended before Hart's incident were Norm Schachter's crew who dropped a down after a holding penalty. link
