I just wanted to post here that I agree with Dan O'Halloran and Eric Furlatt calling a major penalty on Cody Eakin, albeit not for the reason Vegas's Head Coach claims he was told. It was a cross check into the direct path of the second player which poses serious risk of injury as the checked player was defenseless and serious injury did occur. I don't think there was an intent to injure which is why I would not agree with a "Match Penalty" call on the hit. You send someone into the boards with a hard hit it is worse than a hard hit in open ice where the player does not come into contact with anyone. Once you set a chain of events in motion you should be responsible for its reasonable aftermath.

First time in a while(if ever) for Peel and Pochmara to make the 2nd round.

Peel made it to the Conference Finals in 2010 and 2011. This is Pochmara's first time at this level.

It will be interesting to see who gets O'Halloran's spot in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Actually, O'Halloran missed the Finals last year. The refs last year were McCauley, Sutherland, Rooney and Joannette.

Assuming you want to assign top rated refs to a game 7, it is obvious the two guys are bein punished for a horrific call on the play. But it does show the need to subject calls like that to ir.

I am disappointed if O'Halloran and Furlatt are being punished for that call. Vegas should have been much better on the PK. The fact is that was a dangerous hit for the reasons I stated above, even if it was not a check to the head/neck area. I was more disappointed with the work of Pollock/St. Laurent pairing in Round 1. Since Pollock got a Game 7 I figured he was going on, but I would have dropped St. Laurent for Round 2.

Gord Miller from TSN is reporting that O'Halloran is retiring after next season. If that's true, then the Vegas-San Jose Game 7 will be his last playoff game since retiring officials in the NHL don't work the playoffs.

If that is the case and he was otherwise going to work the 2nd Round before this incident, NHL could have given him the 2nd Round before not progressing him further or made him an alternate in 2nd Round so that that was not his final appearance. According to scoutingtherefs.com, Brian Murphy is also retiring after next season.

Murphy did 4 regular seasons worth of games in his playoff career. So he'll have worked 36 seasons worth of games in 32 years by the time he retires.
