HS and youth games will be in jeopardy if people don't fill the void.

Pay and work conditions are an issue. It was good money when before I started driving reffing town soccer games (all of the officials were Junior High and High School students) where I could easily make $75-$100 in a weekend and the parents were usually pretty good because none of the players were travel team material so no delusions of grandeur. Ultimately gave it up because there was a change in leadership that took a way a lot of the incentive. The previous officiating coordinator would assign the higher paying jobs (the older age groups paid more and if you reffed alone you got a bonus versus two man crews) to the more experienced/better officials. The new coordinator basically assigned it at random so you had 8th graders working 6th-9th grade games and 10th/11th graders working 2nd graders. A couple of weeks of that and I said it was not worth my time.
