Post bowl game observations here. Why are the referees for the CFP championship bowls chosen from the SEC and ACC since those schools could possibly be playing in the CFP championship game? Would it have been better to chose referees from other conferences instead of having an ACC Referees officiating the SEC VS BIG12 game and the SEC referees officiating the BIG TEN VS ACC qualifying games. I see the BIG 10 referees will officiating the championship game that will great with nothing at stake. There should be no officials from any conferences that have any schools participating in the national championship qualifying and championship games. I believe the officials are impartial but there should be no question of this during any of the games for the national championship. The Pac 12 has the national championship game this year.

Thanks for posting. I have a very, very dumb question—and I don’t know if the answer varies by conference—but: does the referee play a role in deciding the outcome of the review, or is it all up to the replay official? For that matter, does centralized replay weigh in? What I’m wondering is whether Ken Williamson helped to determine the outcome of the review, or if he just had to fall on the sword and defend it to the pool reporter. I like Ken and I hate that his big time assignment is remembered this way, unless of course it was his call in replay.

That is NOT a dumb question. From my understanding, the replay official makes the final decision. The SEC also has a centralized replay center in Birmingham manned by Tom Ritter, Ben Oldham, and others that collaborates with the replay official on replay decisions. In most cases, though, I believe the on site replay official (in the case of Clemson-Ohio State Gerald Hodges) has the final word. If I am wrong, feel free to correct me.

That means no John O’Neill in a Bowl Game for the first time in a very long time, at least 2007 as that’s as long as I have been tracking. It really shows how competitive Bowl game slots are. With the emergence of Servinski and Kluczynski with the improvement of Snodgrass that makes it that much tougher to get a Bowl Game. Longest Bowl game streak among Big Ten White Hats now is Cannon who has worked one in 8 straight seasons.

This shows why the sidelines need to be clear. Nice job by the F to avoid blockers falling out of bounds.

Read the comments and Terry McAulay says this is a legal play.

While there were some marginal spots and bad calls that went against Wisconsin IMO, the OPI was a good call. The receiver extended his arms at the last second. Thought it was a terrible call at first, but after looking at it again, may have been the best call of all the games today.
