Post observations for all Bowl Games. This is different than the assignment thread where we get the names.
Tell us what you think of the officiating crew!

Cotton Bowl Crew: Referee: Chris Coyte Umpire: Matthew Jordan Linesman: Rod Ammari Line Judge: Dale Keller Back Judge: John Morton Field Judge: Steve Currie Side Judge: Jeff Dahle Center Judge: Chris Wiggins Was there enough material restriction and did the hold create an unfair advantage for the offense? www.clippituser.tv/c/dbzeqdChris Coyte's crew did an excellent job in a game that was basically over at halftime and turned into a blowout in the third quarter. There was one defensive pass interference no-call that probably should have been a call, and one holding penalty I'd like to know if the bosses liked. Other than those two minor nits, this Pac-12 crew did an outstanding job. Coyte prepared his crew well, they worked as a unit and were very smooth. Coyte is now one of the top six college referees in the country. While the game will not be an instant classic (except in Sooner territory), the officials can remember this game with pride in their performance.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 officials used to officiate the Rose Bowl each year with split crews, since the Big Ten and Pac-12 had an automatic Rose Bowl tie-in.
One year the Big Ten would supply the Referee, head linesman, field judge and back judge, while the Pac-12 would supply the umpire, line judge and side judge.
Those positions would flip conferences the following year and alternate back and forth.
About 30-years ago, bowls started assigning neutral crews to bowl games - a much more efficient and less-controversial way to assign bowls.
Big Ten and Pac-12 officials, who enjoyed working the most famous college bowl game in the world, were suddenly shut out of the Granddaddy of Them All.
Then, when the Rose Bowl affiliated first with the BCS, and now the CFP, sometimes the game hosted non Big Ten and Pac-12 teams.
So, the Big Ten and Pac-12 officials finally got a chance to officiate the Rose Bowl once again.
While not in Pasadena, I'm sure John O'Neil's crew is enjoying officiating the Rose Bowl today.

On a punt from Notre Dame, the kick came very close to touching some Alabama receiving team members. The crew ruled on the field that it did not, and that the punt was downed at the 1 yard line. Replay intervened to confirm who touched the kick, and where (elements that are reviewable by rule). Reviews showed that the receiving team did not touch it, but that the kicking team first touched it at the 3, rather than at the 1, so the spot was moved. www.clippituser.tv/c/vqpnwn

Thanks for posting your interesting insights and observations, FredFan7. I didn’t realize that Big Ten and PAC-12 officials used to share Rose Bowl duties.
You mentioned that Chris Coyte is one of your top six referees in college football. Who are the other five? I’m going to guess Brandon Cruse, Jeff Heaser, John O’Neill, Reggie Smith, and either Steve Strimling or Ken Williamson...
