You’re all assuming there wasn’t someone who said I know what the rule is but let’s get the call right. Perhaps an executive decision was made to change the call despite the rule.

If the problem did not start on the field and the supervisory staff allowed it to go through, how can any of the officials be blamed ? Can an alternate official overrule his/her boss ?

It’s not that they’re to blame, and nobody needs to “over-rule” anybody. But somebody can save the crew.
All that needs to happen is for someone to remind anyone else, “hey, are you sure that’s reviewable?” Or maybe “wait, that’s not reviewable, is it?”

I understand that. I think Mark Steinkerchner did that as an alternate last year ? But to grade the whole crew down from 3.7 to 1.5 does not seem reasonable at all. I certainly never graded that way.

Did Mark Perlman jersey read LJ or DJ? It's rare to see him as a down judge, but many officials nowadays work the two positions even ion the same season.

Yes, Mark Steinkerchner stepped in to assist Tony Corrente during one of the wild card games last year, Steinkerchner should have been awarded another game for knowing the rules, and helping his fellow official in making the correct call.

You gotta live with the decision of the Referee, two wrongs do not make it right.
