The ref in FSU/LSU is Vandervelve. Is Reggie Smith back this year? Maybe he is off this week.

I hope Reggie is back this season. He’s one of the best.
Did Marc Curles work a game this weekend?
I think it’s interesting that the CMU-OKSU game drew an ACC crew. I guess that’s because of all of Mike Gundy’s complaining after the controversial finish in that game in 2016. I seem to recall that he said he wouldn’t allow G5 officials to work his games or something like that.
So how many of these new white hats are full-time and how many were pressed into service just for the early season?

I didn’t see Kevin Hassell work this weekend. I wonder if retired?

Marc Curles worked as the CJ on Steve Marlowe's crew for both games Marlowe's crew had this weekend--Ball State @ Tennessee on Thursday and Mercer @ Auburn on Saturday

This is only Week 1 so things can change but it looks like these are the replacements.
ACC- Adam Savoie promoted from CJ to Referee (this was already confirmed this offseason) to replace Heydt
Big Ten- Greg Blum, Bryan Banks and Kole Knueppel all worked games at Referee. Blum worked with an All Big Ten crew so I am guessing he is John O'Neill's Replacement
Big 12- Steve Baron (MWC Referee, Former Big 12 CJ) and Kevin Boitmann (SEC CJ, Former MWC Referee) worked with Big 12 Crews. Brandon Cruse is now in the NFL and Kevin Hassell did not work a Game in Week 1.
Pac-12- All 7 Referees have returned. Jim Wharrie and John Love also worked games as extra Referees
SEC- Kyle Olson (Sun Belt Referee) and Scott Walker (SEC CJ) worked with SEC crews. Alex Moore is now in the NFL and Marc Curles appears to have been demoted to CJ as he worked 2 games with Steve Marlowe
AAC- Kevin Randall (C-USA Referee, former C-USA CJ) appears to be a new AAC Referee. Charles Lamertina worked as a CJ in the ACC. It appears he might have gone the Adam Savoie route losing his white hat status but entering a Power 5 Conference.
C-USA- After working a half season as a fill in Referee Ed Ardito appears to be back working as a White Hat fulltime. Before last season he hadn't worked as a Referee since retiring after the 2014 season. He was a longtime C-USA Referee before joining the AAC in 2013-2014. Rory Bernard (SWAC Referee) also worked with a C-USA crew and appears to be a new Referee. Jon Noli (MWC), Kevin Randall (AAC) and Tobian Johnson (Pac-12 CJ) appear to have moved on to other conferences. With the loss of a few teams this offseason C-USA might have downgraded from 7 to 6 crews. We will see next week.
MAC- Only 6 Referees appeared this week but there are usually 7 crews. 5 of the Referees are the same as last year with Matt Packowski (MVC Referee) the only new White Hat to work with a MAC crew. The last 2 years they have had 7 crews but only 6 Referees with Curt Johnson not working. It appears Johnson is now Officially gone and Packowski has replaced him. There was no Tim O'Dey sighting in Week 1. We will see if the MAC does indeed still have 7 crews and if he is still around.
MWC- Jon Noli (C-USA Referee) worked on an AAC-MWC game with a MWC crew. It appears he has moved from C-USA to replace Steve Baron.
Sun Belt- With the addition of new teams it appears the Sun Belt has 6 crews. Jeremy Parker returned after missing most of last sseason. Other new Referees include Ted Pitts (SEC CJ, Former Sun Belt Referee) returning to the Sun Belt after a 3 year stint as an SEC CJ, Jay Edwards (Was nowhere last season, Pac-12 Referee in 2018 and first half of 2019, CJ in Pac-12 second half of 2019 and 2020, C-USA Referee and BJ before that) and Scott Broadway (Socon Referee). Kyle Olson appears to have been promoted to SEC Referee and Marshall Lewis did not work a Game in Week 1

Big Ten- Greg Blum, Bryan Banks and Kole Knueppel all worked games at Referee. Blum worked with an All Big Ten crew so I am guessing he is John O'Neill's Replacement Plus the crew Blum worked with was basically O'Neill's crew from last year, with a different U (I didn't see who the C was, this w/e but it was Blum last year--so I guess that's 2 changes).

Thanks, Russ, for taking the time to post these changes. Very interesting!!
With Steve Baron and Kevin Boitmann in the Big 12, that entire MWC group from a few years ago (Alvarez, Baron, Boitmann, Hassell, Vandervelde) has now made the move up, though it’s not certain that Hassell is still active.
Jon Noli is a great hire by the MWC. Is Cal McNeill back?
I feel bad for Marc Curles, but he had a long run as a crew chief.
