Back judge Jonah Monroe flags Brandin Echols for pass interference. Echols rode the receiver into the secondary and rode him off of the pass route. The foul in the endzone set up first and goal for the Cowboys on the one yard line.
49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk caught pass on 4th and 6 and the ball appeared to pop out of his possession as he hit the ground. The call on the field was a catch, setting up a 4th and 2 but Rams head coach Sean McVay challenged the ruling and in replay the call was reversed to incomplete. Aiyuk did not complete the 3rd act common to the game.
Clete Blakeman calls the Jets for roughing the passer. There is a rule that the defender cannot hit the quarterback low. The rule states (emphasis mine):
A rushing defender is prohibited from forcibly hitting in the knee area or below a passer who has one or both feet on the ground, even if the initial contact is above the knee. It is not a foul if the defender is blocked (or fouled) into the passer and has no opportunity to avoid him. A defender cannot initiate a roll or launch and forcibly hit the passer in the knee area or below, even if he is being contacted by another player.
While the Jets can argue the call, the rule gives Blakeman lots of leeway to throw the flag.

The Seahawks score a game winning, overtime touchdown.
First of all, nice job by line judge Rusty Baynes in correctly ruling the touchdown in real time.
But should there have been holding on Seattle?
Right tackle Jake Curhan appears to hold Detroit's Aidan Hutchinson, as Hutchinson is bearing down on quarterback Geno Smith. Hands outside the frame isn't an automatic holding flag. Did Curhan hold up Hutchinson? What the officials look for is the defender losing steps or making an "unathletic" move. Hutchinson certainly lost a step in pursuing Smith, and we think there should have been a holding flag here. It is a judgement call for referee Alex Kemp or umpire Mike Morton.
I can go either way on the holding no call. I do find it intersting that Baynes was not on the goal line before the ball. It's been over 10 years since I officiated HS ball, but one thing I do remember is to beat the ball to the line when it's your GL.
