Just one substitution we are aware of:
U102 Bruce Stritesky (swing official) to Novak's crew (HOU-JAX)

Big miss by Jeff Shears. The only explanation I have is that he anticipated the ball carrier going out of bounds. But a very bad miss by Shears.

Chiefs right tackle Jawaan Taylor was flagged twice on back to back drives for an illegal formation penalty at the end of the first half. He kept lining up behind the center's belt line with his helmet and and must be at least on that same plane as the center's beltline. streamable.com/q6735lstreamable.com/hlsyne

He got caught twice last week too. Same thing. I'll bet KC gets that corrected this week.

Very marginal RTP call against #39 on Pittsburgh. Was called for leading with his helmet on the QB but as Terry McAulay said on the broadcast the blow was more towards the shoulder and not forcible. It probably didn’t need to be called IMO.

He got caught twice last week too. Same thing. I'll bet KC gets that corrected this week. It's about time this rule was called. The tackle is gaining an unfair advantage due to his rule violation. Classic definition of advantage/disadvantage and should be called every time.

On an underthrown ball in the end zone, Cardinals cornerback Marco Wilson collided with Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup. A flag was thrown, but after discussion, the crew decided there was no foul on the play.
When the ball is underthrown and the receiver stops, there can be an inadvertent collision which is not a foul. In many cases, pass interference is waved off when the defender is looking back at the ball, but this is neither a requirement nor is it an absolute.
Wilson's contact with Gallup includes a two-hand push. It is intended to look inadvertent, and it worked. The better call would have been to stay with the flag on the field.

Fred Bryan is working as a down judge on Alan Eck's crew this year. This after he spent his first 14-years as an umpire, and worked Super Bowl LIII at that position.
This season he was listed as a swing official, available to work as an umpire or down judge. But, when Derick Bowers was injured in Week 1 and was declared out for the season, Bryan moved in to sub for Bowers the rest of the season.

About the only reason to keep watching the Bears - Chiefs game at this point is to watch first year referee Alan Eck.
He's doing a fine job. He does well on the microphone, has a strong voice and is articulate. His mechanics and signals are also solid.
Rookie referees aren't eligible for a playoff game so we don't know how well he's actually doing. But, in the middle of a boring blowout today, Eck passes the eye test and looks like he belongs.

Do you hear a warbling whistle? Normally we hear the scream of the Fox 40 whistle.
But we hear an old-fashioned warble at times. That's because down judge Robin DeLorenzo uses plastic pea whistle.
She and fellow official Carl Johnson are the only two officials in the NFL who don't use a Fox 40 whistle.

A little confusing if you listen to the announcers, which made an unusual review even harder to understand.
Vikings running back Alexander Mattison is stopped behind the line of scrimmage and subsequently fumbled the ball. The call on the field, though, was that Mattison had his forward progress stopped prior to the fumble. By definition, a runner who has "lost his legs" and is under the control of the opponent is considered to have his forward progress stopped. In this case, Mattison clearly doesn't have control of his feet and has been involuntarily turned around as he loses control of the ball.
Forward progress is not generally reviewable, but in the case where a fumble is overridden by a forward-progress call, there is a narrow replay window. In order to win that challenge, the ball must come loose at the point of initial contact with the defense. Anything more than that is a judgment call and not reviewable. The Chargers lost the challenge.
