The only conference that regularly doubles up Conference Championships with NY6 assignments is the pac-12. Usually, the refs that have these are not the top refs, as they get the NY6.

Big 12 will usually have a few Officials, but usually not the Referee, who will double up NY6 and Conference Championship. But generally every Official who works the Big 12 Championship will also work a Bowl Game. The AAC and MAC will also sometimes have a few Officials double up CC with a Bowl Game. The ACC, Big Ten, C-USA, SEC and Sun Belt do not double up assignments. It will be interesting to see if the MWC doubles up or not. Previously Big 12 Officials would work the Championship game so there was obviously no doubling up. Now that it will be MWC Officials on the game we could see it. With 7 crews now in stead of 5 you probably don't need to.

I will start with my lock of the week: David Smith will not have the SEC title game. David Smith Trading CardDidn't McCabe have the Oregon/Wash game in the regular season? Not that he can't work these two in the Pac 12 title game, but I'm leaning toward Duddy. If I'm not mistaken, they, along with Richards, are the only Pac 12 Rs with white hat experience in the conference. I am most familiar with the Big 10. Snodgrass had Michigan last week, and Blum had Iowa--so, I'm guessing neither of them will have the conference title game. McGinn worked it last year, so I doubt it will be him. Most likely O'Dey and Knuppel won't get it in their first year as Rs (yes, I know O'Dey previously worked as an R in the MAC). Coyte has the resume: a CFP playoff game last year and a championship game previously. I tend to think they would not give it to him in his first year in the Big 10. That leaves us with Mark Kluczynski and Larry Smith. Incidentally, they worked the OSU/Mich game the 2 season prior to this one. I lean toward Smith, but that is totally a guess and my thoughts may turn out to be 100% wrong. I still feel very confident in my pick that David Smith will not work the SEC title game.

I really should have put this in the exclusive section earlier this week, because we did self-embargo the publication. But here are the championship assignments:

I really should have put this in the exclusive section earlier this week, because we did self-embargo the publication. But here are the championship assignments: Woah Kyle Olson, did not expect that at all but happy for him. McDaid has definitely been pushing his younger Officials which I appreciate. Steve Shaw was a terrific Regional Coordinator of Officials but his assignments did tend to become pretty predictable and it was very difficult to move up. Congratulations to everyone selected!

Bill LeMonnier gave a nice shout-out to the Pac-12 officiating staff for doing great work all season, and he noted that the dissolution of the conference leaves them on an island.
Kirk Herbstreit then added his own praise for tonight’s crew for getting all the big calls right. But Chris Fowler slipped in a derisive, “The second time,” suggesting that they only got the calls right in replay.
I know someone who used to work with Chris on College Gameday, and he told me that Chris is not a nice guy. So his comment is not a surprise to me.

Question on Oregon's final TD: I always thought that while a touchdown can get overturned for stepping out, but once someone steps out or is ruled to have, the play is dead and cannot be overturned. Good thing it was, he clearly was in, but I must have the rule complete wrong.

Dereliction of duty by the L and F here. Even if the supervisor doesn't have the officials' backs, this behavior is more than worthy of an unsportsmanlike conduct foul.
Take care of your business.
