Boger in Dallas. Carey in New York. Winter in Detroit. What do/did you think of the crews? I'll be away from a computer until Friday night (grandma isn't hooked up to the 'net ) so everyone have a GREAT and SAFE Thanksgiving!

FF7 remembered to post the Turkey Day observations this year! Happy Thanksgiving to all, and to all of our Canadian friends, make sure you eat a turkey sandwich for us tomorrow!

Winter just had to make a pretty complex announcement.
After a NE TD, a Detroit player was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. After the ensuing extra point, another Detroit player was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, and another was flagged for a personal foul. Only one of those penalties were enforced, so the Patriots got to kick off from the DET 40.

Yep, it took them a while to get it all sorted out, but a good explanation of all the math by Winter. Busy second half and even busier fourth quarter for Winter & crew. Game's not over yet, let's see how many more penalties the Lions can get.

I also want to add that the crew made a BAD offensive pass interference call against DET #84 in the 4th quarter. The receiver engaged a defender BEFORE the pass was thrown, let go and then caught the pass. I hope we get an explanation from MP or Carl Johnson this week.

DAL had to burn two challenges within the first 10 minutes of the game. Both calls were ultimately ruled in their favour, so DAL will be afforded a 3rd challenge.
I agree with the announcers that the first is a gimme. After that, you can keep going until you're wrong.

Lots of talk over the illegal kick and then Boger gives the wrong signal....

I thought Carey got the challenge on the CIN TD by TO wrong. He was in.

I saw the Detroit game, I thought overall Winter's crew did a good job in this game, it was nice to see his crew wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Here's how I grade the 3 Turkey Day crews:
Winter: B+. The crew made a really bad OPI call against Detroit and the game started to get out of hand towards the end. Other than that, they did a pretty good job.
Boger: A+. I only saw the 2nd half of the game but I thought the crew did a really good job. In particular, Tony Steratore had a really good game, and did a GREAT job of holding his whistle on the Roy Williams fumble. Boger made a good call on the illegal kick, too.
Carey: A. The challenge on the Terrell Owens TD could have gone either way. The game was a dud but the crew still did a pretty good job.

YOU CAN COMMIT OPI BEFORE THE BALL IS THROWN BUT NOT DPI

I thought Winter's crew did about an A-. They had to work hard to keep the lid on the game in the 4th quarter.
Zimmer and Winter did a nice job just listening to the head coach yell at them after the big scrum and just walked away after the coach had his say.
I was impressed with Boger's crew.
Grandma didn't get NFLN so I didn't get to see that game.
Unless there's something I'm missing, I expect Winter's crew to get a playoff game or at worst be crew replacements.

Unless there's something I'm missing, I expect Winter's crew to get a playoff game or at worst be crew replacements. I sure hope they get a playoff game, but you never know. I can distinctly remember, on these forums, that we've collectively considered a WH or crew as a "lock" for the playoffs, only to have them get nothing. Last year, it was John Parry, in the 2005 season, it was Tom White and Bernie Kukar (who we thought was Super Bowl bound). In the past, we were impressed by Walt Anderson, Larry Nemmers, Mike Carey, and Ed Hochuli, only to end up with an alternate slot if lucky. I don't want to jinx Winter & crew, but I hope they get a playoff game. I'm still hoping Winter can get a Conference Championship. He's been a CC alternate two or three times, but only worked one CC his final year as a line judge.

Mel:
I believe RJ was the alternate WH in the SB two years ago.
Edkargir:
Wouldn't OPI before the ball is thrown considered holding or the like, unless I have forgotten the rule, OPI can only occur after the ball is in the air. Just as DPI.

There was a foul there, but probably not OPI. Holding would have been the better choice. The defender had established position, was grabbed and moved.
