A little over 50 years ago NFL Commissioner, Bert Bell, approached a young official named Tom Kelleher to recruit him to the NFL. Kelleher told Bell, "But Mr. Bell, my goal has always been to work the Army-Navy game." To which Bell replied, "Every game in the NFL is the Army-Navy game."
60-100 years ago, the Army-Navy game almost always determined the National Championship. While it has diminished in importance, it is still quite a historic, colorful, and stirring game.

I have an uncle who played football at West Point back in the 60's. He had a chance to play in 3 of these games, and one year, he shared a hotel room with Navy QB Roger Staubach during the week leading up to the game.
He said that is was always an awesome experience.
