There's a news story and then a video. Warning, the video is disturbing. They'd better throw the book at these cretins. This is why I don't do youth sports anymore. If this was a state sanctioned event, the coach and program would be shut down for a LONG time. Youth events are under no such sanction - it's usually the inmates running the asylum. bit.ly/oCUeXI

I'm going to rant about this, so excuse me if I say something offensive about youth coaches.
I'm taking a year off from officiating. I already miss working high school games, but I don't miss working middle school and bantam games one little bit.
Most of the guys who coach these teams are a bunch of overgrown high schoolers who are trying to live out their glory days as a coach. As is evidenced in the article and video, the majority of these guys are idiots. IT'S JUST A DAMN YOUTH FOOTBALL GAME, DUDES!!!!!!
These youth leagues have no structure whatsoever. We had NUMEROUS incidents involving my old association where a coach was ejected and allowed to coach the following week because the "board of directors" didn't agree with the ejection. There are a couple of coaches who have been ejected multiple times and are still members of the league.
This story is shameful. The sad thing is that this behavior ruins it for the kids, who are the most important component of youth sports.

Those coaches should be permanently banned from coaching any sport. Not only that, they should and quite possibly will serve some time in jail. If I were the judge, I would absolutely throw the book at these clowns. It's absolutely pitiful that grown men can't act any better than that. I hope the referee was not seriously injured.
