The 8 playoff crew chiefs almost always work the finals - I am confident this will be the case with this outstanding individual.

This most certainly seems to be an end of an era. As we complete the second games of the first round, senior referee Dick Bavetta has not been assigned to a playoff game.....If he is not injured, he should be in the playoffs regardless of his age....He was a full-time crew chief in the regular season, there are 16 of them.....Tony Brown #6 and David Guthrie #16 are in their first playoff series....IMO, league is forcing out Dick Bavetta.

Good to see Dick Bavetta assigned to work tonight's Oklahoma City and denver Game....Let's see home many rounds he can get assigned.

Good to see Dick Bavetta assigned to work tonight's Oklahoma City and denver Game....Let's see home many rounds he can get assigned. The fact that Bavetta isn't the crew chief for tonight's game tells me that he's fallen down the pecking order. It's sad, but the younger generation has to take over at some point. Was Bavetta assigned to a Finals game last year?

I believe he has missed the last two Finals.....After all the publicity surrounding the Donaghy situation, it appears he may have fell out of favor with some powers to be.

It is an inevitability that every official will reach the end of an illustrious career. Some choose to leave and "go out on top," like Steve Shaw and Jack Childress recently did in NCAA football. Others stay a few years beyond their prime. Perhaps, even though he is still in great shape at the age of 71, Dick Bavetta is no longer at the top of his game.............
