es.pn/QRQP2TCan someone expound on the union pool? From what I read, that sounds really whizzy by the NFL.

I wonder if they actually meant that the union is supplementing the income of the locked-out officials.
I've never heard of a locked-out union being financially responsible for paying for replacement workers.

It sounds like they mean that the union officials will receive their annual pay prorated from what is left on salaries and expenses for the replacements are paid.
Also, if the league is "committed" that means that the replacements have a game check, play or no play. Therefore, if the NFL has to double-pay a week, that is not extra money the NFL is on the hook for, it just would be subtracted from what the union officials would be paid.
I think.
(In 2001, replacement officials were paid for 3 regular season games, working only 1, if I'm not mistaken.)

I think that it just means that the offer to the officials for this year from the league goes down by the amount they are paying the replacements, so the "pool" of dollars for the union for the 2012 season is being decreased.

Pool to the officials decreased!? After what I've seen & heard half way thru pre season week 1, I'd think the offer would be increasing. The thought of these scabs working a regular season game(Dallas @ny Giants) should have the league doubling their offer & giving the regulars new cars & vacation beach homes!!!Build Ed Hochuli a new workout facility!
