Gerald Austin just appeared on the ESPN preseason game with Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden, and it was announced that he will be on all the MNF games this year. Good move. This will solve the problem of Gruden giving erroneous interpretations and criticisms.

This will solve the problem of Gruden giving erroneous interpretations and criticisms. Definitely will solve the problem of Gruden. ESPN is doing this in response to FOX who has Pereira. They gave it a test run during the NFL playoffs with Steve Javie. I can think of no one better than Gerald Austin for this position. He will do a great job educating the masses.

Remember when everyone mocked Austin for wearing the short sleeves with the black pants? Yup he started the new fashion trend.

Harry T. You are correct. However, Arena Football was 1st league to do it full time.

Well that leaves CBS. Maybe they're waiting for Ed Hochuhi to hang up his whistle (although as I understand it, he may be available for some games early in the season!)

cj: Please! Hoculi would have a mile long dissertation for every situation, and the sponsors couldn't afford the air time! A game would go on for hours...isn't 3 1/2+ hours enouugh already?

JAYJAY, Mike Carey will work just as well Or someone could try and convince Bill Vinovich that the pay is much better and it would be good on his heart

How about voices from the past? Ben Dreith? (He's was really giving him the business down there.)
How about Johnny Grier? Jerry Seeman?
(Yeah I know, Ben is no spring chicken)

Austin is a good choice. The networks and the league need to have a standard person or persons they can go to for rule questions so that we dont have to listen to joe buck's idiocy. similar to how golf tournaments have someone on staff to explain rules and etc.

Austin is an excellent choice. Remember there are several other officials out there that I'm sure would do a great job - not just white hats.

A very good piece from someone emminently qualified to speak on these issues. I'm almost scared to see when things ramp up for real, what's going to happen starting tonight and will Lord Roger be standing with egg on his face? I hope he will come to his senses, if that's at all possible. My rant for today, Thanks for the piece Becky....
