So here's my question....it's the last 2 minutes of the half, right? Isn't it the obligation (forget scbs are working the game) just as much as anybody else to buzz down for the referee to review the play and ask if he remembers the rule about the untimed down (just as the replay official in the "tuck rule" game buzzed down and reminded Walt Coleman of the tuck rule? And the replay official was the regular replay official. So the replay official is at fault also not because scabs were working because that would be part of his responsiblity! (all members of the crew and the replay official is considered part of the crew are responsible for working together!)

What a shocker CJ...You now blame the team for not knowing the rule! Bad enough you expect replay officials to go beyond their justicion, the supervisors on the sideline, the clock operators, control center in NY all to make sure the scabs get it right? Why not ask the ground crew, or better yet poll the fans & get thier opinion, maybe use a lifeline to phone a friend! Or how about simply getting the real refs who can handle it all?! What is justicion?

Sorry timdaye, that's jusistiction. CJ-The only time that replay can only buzz down is if there is some aspect of the play that is reviewable. Penalty enforcements & timing elements are not reviewable. I'm as sorry as you...I think every aspect of the scab's work should be reviewable!

Buzzy...I'm not trying to be obnoxeous or start an argument. Let's take the fact they are scabs out of this for just a second and discuss this on n officiating level. From reading stuff over the years, all members of a crew are responsible for the administration of the game. The replay official is a member of the crew. There he is watching the end of the game and perhaps he calls for a replay (which is only his perogative in the last 2 minutes of either half and at any time in overtime) as to whether a violation has occurred. Again forgive me, I didn't watch the game. It was well past my bed time. Did the covering official clearly signal with his hands to his shoulders an illegal touch? Did the referee announce illegal touch? I really do wonder and I'm not saying it with any mixed agenda whether or not if the regular guys would have forgotten (and as I asked did Jim Tunney who was in the booth playing Gerry Austin's role as it was a double header say anything?). Is there anybody here who can give a definitive answer and not just from the narrow view point that they are for or against the lock out. A discussion of proper procedures is what I'm asking for because frankly I'm unsure (and I wonder if Periera is doing chats and I never seem able to get through). No put downs intended to anybody but to me it's a fascinating question.

OK CJ I'll do my best. All answers based on any official, in any game (froget the scab element). 1.The replay official can ONLY buzz the field when he suspects that there may have been an element of a REVIEWABLE play. There is very strict protocol as to what things are reviewable or not. It is not an option to buzz if the aspect in question is not BY RULE reviewable. 2.Wheteher the covering official signals illegal touch or not, it is SOLEY (possible help from an ON FIELD partner) his responsibility to recognize that it has happened an ask the offended team coach if he wants to extend. It is NOT the coaches, replay official, observor, ground crew, cheerleaders etc. etc. responsibility...that would go for non scab officials as well! 3.Stop wondering..the real officials would most certainly know the rule, or they wouldn't be in the League. Knowing the rules is a prerequisite. I hope I did OK!...I have no desire to be obnoxious or have an argument either. Just stating the facts.
