Jay Glazer tweet:
There were substantial talks on Monday between the NFL and NFLRA. However there are still serious economic gaps between the sides.
Keep talking until it is done.
I mean it.

Actually, I'm told the two sides had talks over 2 days this week but again still not close enough. At least they are talking though!!!!
Yet another update. Talks I'm told were Tuesday and Wednesday. No resolution. So talks happened after MNF debacle

Unfortunately, Florio says no further talks scheduled........... bit.ly/OJZIFlAnd reading confirms what some here have been saying all along. The big issue is pensions and the NFL is very asdamant on that....our way or the highway. Doesn't look good, does it?

Sure, it confirms the big issue is the pensions - we already knew that. It's nothing that confirms the NFL will be holding onto that stance until the bitter end.

I would hope that the NFL and NFLRA would schedule a session or two and hammer out the other contract language, including other issues such as working conditions, extra crews, etc. I know the pension is the sacred cow of both sides, but why not work on some other issues, maybe prove to each other that the opposite side isn't The Personification of Evil, and hit up the pension issue when the other, non-pension-related issues are worked out.

Fred because if there is nothing else to do but pension neither side has the leverage to offer concessions on other issues for concessions on pensions

What we don't know, Fred, is just how far apart they are on the other issues. For all we know those issues may already have been all but settled (I don't know of course) or the pension chasm is so wide that it does no good to negotiate on anything else! A bad sign they haven't agreed to continue negoiating so we'll have to wait to see if the big blooper takes place this weekend or we get another weekend full of mistakes the league considers not bad enough to settle (whether those here do or not).
