Sadly, there are many winners in this debacle: NFL, NFLNetwork, ESPN, FOX, CBS, NBC, not too mention the plethora of online sites that cater to NFL, like PFT. Big business/corporations is, as always, the winner.
If I had influence in this horrendous, dreadful product that the NFL is marketing to all, it would be to encourage cohesion, unity, togetherness, and colleagueship amongst retired players who now serve as color commentators, network analysts, and media liaisons.
Unfortunately, these former gridiron stars are unaware of their pawn-ship as media prostitutes; they complain about the status of the current state of the game, but their comments only drive bigger dollars for producers and corporate sponsors. This beautiful game they have given, committed their entire life to is now disrespecting the game's history, tradition, and brotherhood.
All of the former players who have moved into the role of NFL media personality need to respond by walking away from their media posts and take a stance against this ridiculous product the NFL is showcasing week in and week out. It is time for them to give back to the game that rewarded them with a plentiful, revered life. Simply, they need to take care of the ball.
