Celtics@Knicks: Monty McCutchen, Bill Spooner, Gary Zielinski, ALT- Kane Fitzgerald
Warriors@Nuggets: Mike Callahan, Tom Washington, David Guthrie, ALT- Brian Forte
Bulls@Nets: Ken Mauer, Ed Malloy, Sean Wright, ALT- Josh Tiven
Grizzlies@Clippers: Scott Foster, Bill Kennedy, John Goble, ALT- Mark Ayotte
All 12 Officials on the floor Today have worked the playoffs before and Zielinski was the only one who didn't make it past the first round last year.
As far as the alternates go Forte and Fitzgerald were both alternates last year but this Tiven's first time as an alternate and the first time he was even eligible to be an alternate seeing as it is his third season. He is certainly on the rise. I am not sure if Ayotte has ever been an alternate but I assume he has since it is his 9th season.
It will also be intersting to see who the 8th Crew Chief is since Greg Willard will have to be replaced. The fact that we have seen Malloy, Washington and Kennedy already narrows it down to probably either Capers or Brothers. Maybe Ron Garretson or Bennett Salvatore could be the eighth CC but I doubt it. J.Crawford, D.Crawford and Stafford are locks to be seen tommorow as the other 3 CC's

From watching parts of the game the Knicks fans were not thrilled with the officiating and were more vocal than usual about it

Day 2:
Hawks@Pacers: Derrick Stafford, Rodney Mott, David Jones, ALT-Pat Fraher
Lakers@Spurs: Dan Crawford, Marc Davis, Jason Phillips, ALT-Tony Brown
Bucks@Heat: Bennett Salvatore, James Capers, Sean Corbin, ALT-Mark Lindsay
Rockets@Thunder: Ron Garretson, Tony Brothers, Zach Zarba, ALT-Bennie Adams
Both Garretson and Salvatore are CC's Today. Noe Joe Crawford yet. It looks they are going to have more than the typical 8 CC's. I would expect to see Joe tomorrow.

Is he injured? I would assume he would be assigned Playoffs as Crew Chief if healthy as he had a lot of high profile games this year.
I am not surprised Dick Bavetta has not been assigned as I am still wondering if he is retiring.
Also, Eddie Rush has not been assigned, he missed all of last year and parts of this year with injuries.
Ron garretson listed as Crew Chief saturday and Tony Brothers for tonight...need to see an actual replay review in this game to confirm Crew Chief.

I find it interesting that 5 of the first 8 Game 2's have had had the same three Officials working together. I fully expect tommorows crews to be: Mauer, Malloy, Wright D.Crawford, Davis, Phillips Salvatore, Capers,Corbin
It will also be interesting to see what the crews for the Game 3s will look like. Will they keep the same guys together again? Will there be Officials seen for the first time? Will they mix up the crews. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Since they've kept crews together for Games 1 and 2, I'm assuming that when the teams change cities, that's when we'll see the other expected CC's.

After Tim Donaghey's book smeared Bavetta, Bavetta, rightly or wrongly, has not gone very far in the playoffs. Plus, former NBA referees (Mathis and Hollins) have accused Bavetta of being a suck-up to NBA team brass. I think after all of that, the NBA had no choice but to keep him off big playoff games.
That, plus his skills have probably eroded in the last five years and he might not merit a deep playoff run.
But, once Bavetta retires, it will be the end of an era. He and Joe Crawford are the very last links to the bygone days of the wild west refs of Rudolph, Strom, Gushue, Vanak, Powers, and Drucker.

I would like to think NBA has handled Dick Bavetta like NHL handles retiring official. His last game was in Charlotte, NC and they assigned him as a Crew Chief.
At 73 years old he has had a Great and Accomplished NBA Career. He struggled early in his career and worked hard to become one of the best.
If this is it for him, Good Luck and Thanks for all the memories.

No matter his skill level, I think it is amazing that Bavetta is officiating a professional sports league at age 73.
I would bet the farm that Bavetta is the oldest person ever to officiate the major North American pro sports.
Quirk, Barnes, Phares, and Botchan - 68 Froemming - 68 Fraser, (Scapinello?) - 58ish Bavetta - 73
Anyone?
