3B Umpire Tim Welke had the honors of dumping Bobby Cox in Game 6 of the 1996 World Series. Even though Welke ejected Cox, Bobby's beef was with 2B Umpire Terry Tata who called Marquiz Grissom out attempting to steal 2nd. Also seen in this video are CC Jim Evans breaking up the argument and Gerry Davis is behind the Plate.

Great job by Welke to not engage in Cox's stupidity.
Tata missed the call, unfortunately.
Interesting to see Davis behind the plate while not using "his" stance!

Very interesting indeed. It is very interesting to see him and Welke 17 years ago. Tim looks almost exactly the same except he has more grey hair now. This would be the first of 5 World Series for Davis and the first of 4 for Welke.
I agree with Welke dumping Cox. Cox had already finished his argument with Tata there is no need to reingage with a different Umpire. I also know Cox deserved it because Welke almost never ejects anybody so to eject somebody from a World Series Game 6 would take a lot.

IIRC, Cox went after Welke because of Welke's strike zone in Game 3 and the fact that the next night in right field, Welke got in the way of Jermaine Dye's attempt to make a catch which started a big Yankee rally to tie a game the Yankees eventually won in extra innings.

Also, Grissom would have been dumped in a regular season game.
