James Capers is a crew chief tonight - that's a bump-up for him. More crew chiefs?? Or is somebody getting bumped down? I'm still thinking Mauer is not going to be a CC this round. There is probably going to be at least seven CC's because I cannot imagine Joe Crawford not being a CC in every round. I can't remember a time when all 8 main CC's from the first round were all CC's the next round but I guess it is possible.

Maybe they have more CC's this round than past years because of the travel, the teams left are more spread out than recent years.

With the playoffs half over already, who does everyone have working the finals at this point?
My 12 (for the time being) are:
Dan Crawford (CC)*** Joe Crawford (CC)*** Scott Foster (CC)*** Monty McCutchen (CC)*** Ken Mauer Mike Callahan Tony Brothers James Capers Ed Malloy Derrick Stafford** Bill Spooner* Rodney Mott*
*Would be first time in the finals for both Mott & Spooner **Stafford would be back in the finals after missing last year (everyone else would be returning from 2013) ***Same 4 crew chiefs as in 2012 & 2013

The "2" and "3" spots as listed by the NBA are purely alphabetical although it's undoubtedly safe to say that Callahan (for example) is more of a "2" since he was a crew chief last round.

NBA always seems to add at least one new ref to finals each year. Bill Spooner has been my choice the past few years to no avail. I feel he has been overlooked and underrated for years, same with Rodney Mott. However, hard to exclude Jason Phillips and Marc Davis, both crewed some in playoffs.
Dan Crawford (CC)***
Joe Crawford (CC)***
Scott Foster (CC)***
Monty McCutchen (CC)***
Ken Mauer
Mike Callahan
Tony Brothers
James Capers
Ed Malloy
Marc Davis
Bill Spooner
Bill Kennedy

Conference Finals Summary:
Who's left (18): 7-Stafford, 8-Davis, 10-Garretson, 13-McCutchen (CC), 14-Malloy, 17-J. Crawford (CC), 19-Capers, 22-Spooner, 23-Phillips, 24-Callahan, 25-Brothers, 28-Zarba, 30-Goble, 41-Mauer (CC), 43-D. Crawford (CC), 48-Foster (CC), 49-Washington, 55-Kennedy.
Who's out (10): 33-Corbin & 36-Jones were alternates for this round. 6-Brown, 15-Salvatore, 16-Guthrie, 26-Fraher, 38-Smith, 42-Lewis, 65-Wright, 71-Mott.
The only change to the 18 from last year was Goble moving up (an alternate last year) and Mott moving down. Goble and Zarba continue to look like the "rising stars."
My picks for the 12: McCutchen, J. Crawford, D. Crawford, Foster (CC's), Mauer, Brothers, Capers, Davis, Phillips, Callahan, Malloy, Stafford. (Stafford in, Kennedy out versus last year.)

My 12
Joe Crawford (CC) Dan Crawford (CC) Monty McCutchen (CC) Scott Foster (CC) Ken Mauer Mike Callahan Tony Brothers James Capers Ed Malloy Bill Kennedy Marc Davis Zach Zarba
My only change from last year is Zarba instead of Phillips. While it is uncommon there is precedent for a non regular CC working the finals (Kennedy in 2010 and Brothers in 2012) and Zarba has been a rising star for awhile now. He has worked the Conference Finals 3 out of the last 4 years. He is in his 11th season an Malloy was in his 9th when he first worked the Finals so it is not completely insane.

I had my guess at the 12 before the conference finals started, and I've decided to revise it a bit:
My 12 for the Finals:
Dan Crawford (CC) Joe Crawford (CC) Scott Foster (CC) Monty McCutchen (CC) Ken Mauer Mike Callahan Tony Brothers James Capers Ed Malloy Jason Phillips (in lieu of Spooner) Tom Washington (in lieu of Mott) Bill Kennedy (in lieu of Stafford)
My list is similar to TJ's list, except A.)Kennedy stays in over Stafford and B.)Washington in over Davis.
I don't think there'll be any new officials this year, though if there is one, I think it'll be one of Goble, Spooner, or Zarba.

Time to tweak my list as well. Stafford didn't seem to be doing much in the late games, so I'll replace him with Washington on my final prediction list (still replacing Kennedy from last year).
And russ, I don't think including Zarba on your list is far-fetched at all! He got some late games so that wouldn't surprise me either!!

This may be a stupid question with no actual answer, but I've been thinking...
How come the NBA doesn't do like the other big leagues & name which officials get to work the NBA Finals before the finals start?
(I'm talking about naming all 12 officials first, then releasing the different crews on the morning of game days like usual)
